Dr Mojca Stubelj Ars is a researcher, cultural producer, writer and visual artist whose work moves between culture, research, education and international collaboration.

Her research career has developed across three main fields: nutrition and health, environmental research, and cultural research. She began her research path in the field of environmental physiology, contributing to studies focused on the health and behaviour of children and adolescents. Her early research explored nutritional supplement use among adolescents, physical activity and participation in sports clubs, and sports injuries among children and young people.

Her research later expanded towards environmental behaviour, sustainability and the relationship between people and their environment. She conducted research on ecotourism as one of the most sustainable tourism practices. She holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and was a Fulbright Research Scholar at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

More recently, her work has increasingly focused on cultural research, particularly European Capitals of Culture, cultural legacy, participation, belonging, cultural development and cross-border cooperation. Across these different research areas, she is interested in how people interact with their social, cultural and physical environments and in the conditions that contribute to individual and collective well-being. She is also developing an emerging research interest in happiness and well-being.

Alongside her professional and research work, she writes poetry and creates visual art. She is also the author of five multilingual children’s books and the founder of an early-language-learning initiative that brought her books to readers in more than twenty countries. Across these different fields, her work is connected by an interest in people, place, language, creativity and belonging.
